Tottenham are chasing Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain. The Daily Mail says Luka Modric is a target for Real Madrid - but there remains a substantial amount of negotiating to be done before the path is cleared for him to leave for Spain.

And Spurs sources claim Tottenham will try to negotiate a way for striker Higuain to be part of any deal to take Modric to the Bernabeu.

Andre Villas-Boas is a huge fan of Argentina forward Higuain and tried to sign him during his time as manager of Chelsea last season.

Whether Higuain would consider leaving Madrid for a team not playing in the Champions League remains to be seen.
