Tottenham defender Fryers: I never fell out with Ferguson

Tottenham defender Zeki Fryers denies falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson as he controversially left Manchester United 18 months ago.

Fryers moved to Spurs via Standard Liege.

"I spoke with him (Ferguson) and I thought it was my time to leave," said the 21-year-old. "It just came to it really. I didn't say anything disrespectful nor did he disrespect me.

"I wanted to go abroad to further my career. It's rare that English people go abroad to play. I thought I was going to go and try something new and I enjoyed it and then come January there were a few options. Spurs were one of them.

"There were always going to be accusations with me finishing in Belgium but I looked at the teams with my agent and we decided Spurs was the best for my development because of the staff there.

"Tim (Sherwood), Chris Ramsey and Les Ferdinand are great coaches and they did a lot of work with me and they helped me improve my game, to get forward more and introduce something new to my game and become a more modern full-back."
