Tottenham defender Sebastien Bassong knows his first team chances will get slimmer if they fail to make Europa League progress.
Bassong featured in last night's defeat to PAOK Salonika.
He remarked to tribalfootball.com: "That's football. I actually don't know. Obviously (it's harder to play) if we have one competition less because then it's just the FA Cup and the league.
"Well we just have to hope we win the next one (against Shamrock Rovers) and hope that Rubin Kazan will lose (to PAOK) so we can only wait and see.
"We didn't expect to be in this position in the group and we thought we had enough to get us through but if we have to win to go through now.
"We started the game poorly and we had to come back and you can't afford to do that. When you conceded two goals like that it's really hard to get back in the game."
