Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld was delighted with the manner of their thumping win over Hull City.
Alderweireld felt the 7-1 rout was the perfect way to end the season.
“That's something we talked about," Alderweireld told Tottenham's official website when asked whether the victory at Hull represented a statement for next season.
"Of course we had last season in mind, we didn't perform that well at the end of the season.
"So it was like a message and the mentality we always want to have – even if we don't play for anything except for pride – is that we still keep on going and keep playing fantastic football.
"We wanted to end the season strongly and with 6-1 and 7-1 wins, I think we did."
