Tottenham Hotspur fear Harry Kane could be sidelined for as much as a couple of months.
Reports suggest that the star striker is in major doubt after sustaining ankle ligament damage late in Sunday's 1-0 win over Stoke City at White Hart Lane.
Kane, who scored the only goal of the contest, was stretchered off after going down awkwardly in an attempted tackle and it is understood that he may have a 'grade two' problem which could see him out of action for six to eight weeks.
The best case scenario would be a lay-off of 10 days to two weeks, but Spurs are bracing themselves for bad news.
If Kane is ruled out for two months, he will miss key Premier League fixtures against title favourites Manchester City, reigning champs Leicester City and North London rivals Arsenal. The 23-year-old is also set to be absent for three of Spurs' five remaining Champions League group games as well as a trio of England's World Cup qualifiers against Malta, Slovenia and Scotland.
