Tottenham remain keen on Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll.
The London Evening Standard says despite Newcastle denials, Spurs have been given an indication that a deal could be reached.
Toon boss Alan Pardew has already admitted he is interested in Tottenham duo Robbie Keane and David Bentley, who have both been told they will be sold this month should Spurs receive a good offer.
Spurs are willing to trade both players and cash for England frontman Carroll, who has impressed in his debut season in the Premier League having scored 11 goals so far.
Keane and Bentley are valued at around £12million and it will take another £8m on top of that for Newcastle to consider the deal.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is also believed to be prepared to offer Peter Crouch as part of the bait to get Carroll away from St James' Park.
