Tottenham convinced signing Man City striker Adebayor on loan

Tottenham are confident landing Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

The London Evening Standard says Spurs are confident they will sign Adebayor on loan despite facing strong competition for him from Marseille.

Spurs are desperate to get a striker this month and boss Harry Redknapp has switched his sights back to the 27-year-old after Manchester City made it clear they would help pay his £160,000-a-week salary.

City are keen to offload Adebayor and had hoped Real Madrid would sign him permanently after he was on loan at the Bernabeu last season but that now looks unlikely.

At the moment only Marseille and Spurs are interested and while City would prefer to send him to the French side rather than one of their Premier League rivals it is understood the former Arsenal striker has set his sights on White Hart Lane. Spurs believe they will secure his signature, which will include an option to buy at the end of the season.
