Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar is edging closer to a shift to Tottenham according to reports.

It is believed that the South African international has told Spurs boss Harry Redknapp he is keen to land at White Hart Lane next season as it becomes clearer that he will not sign a new Everton deal.

The Pienaar merry-go-round has been gaining traction for a while now with a handful of bigger clubs keen on his services as his contract comes to an end at the completion of this season.

He has rejected an improved contract offer from the Toffees despite the club nurturing him after he arrived from Borussia Dortmund over two years ago and if manager David Moyes’ comments from a couple of weeks ago are anything to go by, the 28-year old will be on his way out of Goodison Park next summer.

“I would love Steven Pienaar to stay, but I am already resigned to losing him at the end of the season,” he said. “If there is the slightest doubt in his mind about the future, I would hope he might still accept our offer, because the grass isn't always greener. Mind you, I have already tried that line, and it hasn't worked so far.

“But he has promised he will give his all in every game, and he also knows that any player in his last season needs to play out of his skin, if he wants to impress any suitors and land the sort of wages he may be looking for. He has been doing some good things out in the middle, so if this is to be his last season here, it should at least be a good one.”
