Tottenham are convinced they will have a deal for Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor.
The Daily Mail says sources close to the deal have claimed a breakthrough had been made and Tottenham were confident of completing a deal before the end of the week.
City initially wanted Spurs to pay more than half Adebayor's wages, but their stance is understood to have weakened, such is their eagerness to shift at least some of the player's money off the wage bill.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp hopes to have the former Arsenal striker on board for his side's first game of the season against Manchester United on Monday.
