Bongani Khumalo from South African outfit Supersport United has penned a four-and-a-half year deal with Tottenham. The 23 year old came for a trial in July last year and impressed boss Harry Redknapp enough to be offered a deal for a fee of around £1.5m.

The centre half also scored for South Africa during the World Cup when he fired the opener in the hosts' 2-1 group stage win over France.

Redknapp has bolstered his defensive options because of the injury concerns over centre-backs Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate.
