Tottenham and Manchester United are battling for Southampton skipper Adam Lallana. The People says Lallana's name was handed to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy by boss Tim Sherwood on a list of potential buys.

And they will pursue Southampton's attacking midfield player even if Sherwood leaves his current role, with Louis van Gaal tipped to take over.

United boss David Moyes - already closing in on Saints defender Luke Shaw - is also in the hunt for Lallana, 25.

Moyes is looking for fresh midfield talent, and Lallana fits the bill.
