Tottenham have failed with bids for two midfielders.
The Daily Star says Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has been forced to pull the plug on eight-figure moves for Joao Moutinho and Willian.
Shakhtar Donetsk have refused to budge on their demand for more than double the £11.8m Spurs offered for Brazil forward Willian.
And talks with Porto also collapsed last night over Moutinho, with Spurs baulking at his £24m tag.
A source close to that deal said last night: "It will be almost impossible to conclude a transfer in the time available now."
