Tottenham boss Villas-Boas admits Toronto FC chasing Defoe
He could not deny Toronto's interest in the striker, who is an outsider to make Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad.
Villas-Boas said: "We have kept the confidence in Defoe because he did well against Fulham and we wanted to give him two straight games. It was deserved.
"We have three great strikers and it's a question of a choice and strategy for the game. JD has been doing well so he deserves his place.
"I am extremely happy with him. He is a wonderful professional and a wonderful person and a great goalscorer. People can link him to other clubs, we can't stop that. It doesn't mean that we're going to accept any offer."
