Tottenham boss Redknapp: We paid more for Parker due to keeping Livermore

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits they paid over the odds for Scott Parker as he wanted to keep hold of Jake Livermore.

Redknapp rejected West Ham United's demand that Livermore be included in the Parker deal.

"I like Jake. He's a fantastic boy and he's an established player now," Redknapp told London 24 of a player who has already made 12 appearances this season.

"West Ham wanted to take him and, in the end, he didn't want to go anyway. It didn't happen and I'm pleased to have him here because he's important for us.

"He'll play in midfield and do a job anywhere for you. I think he has a good future.

"We paid more money for Scott in the end rather than throw Jake in as part of the deal."
