Tottenham boss Redknapp wants Palermo defender Kjaer - not Cavani

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp will not pay over the odds for Palermo defender Simon Kjaer.

The Daily Star says Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini says Spurs have made a £28.5m double bid for Kjaer and Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani.

But Harry Redknapp is not interested in Cavani, who looks set to join Steve McClaren at Wolfsburg, and he has yet to make an official bid for Kjaer. A source close to Spurs said last night: "Palermo's claims are inaccurate. We have not bid for these players."

Kjaer, 21, tops Spurs' shopping list after a string of impressive performances in Italy's Serie A last season. But they face competition with Manchester United, AC Milan and Barcelona all interested.
