Tottenham boss Redknapp upset for Allardyce over Blackburn dismissal

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp can't believe Blackburn Rovers' decision to sack Sam Allardyce.

In his column for The Sun, Redknapp wrote: "My heart sinks whenever I hear stories about owners and chairmen with their fancy lists of players they want to bring in.

"Why can't they just leave everything to do with the team and the players to the manager, and concentrate on sorting out the financial side of things?

"Sam would have had his own list, and it would have been far more realistic. He would have identified whole-hearted players ready to give their all to help improve things at Blackburn.

"That is one of Sam's specialties - being able to sort out the players who still have something to offer from those who just wanted to make a quick and easy buck.

"He got the best out of the likes of Youri Djorkaeff, Jay-Jay Okocha and Ivan Campo.

"And it was Sam who turned Kevin Davies' career around.

"Sam's always been terrific at getting the best out of his players. He's never been one to spend fortunes, but he's performed wonders practically everywhere he's been.

"People would look at Sam and think he was Grizzly Adams after a shave.

"I think that was part of the reason he got unfairly labelled as a one-dimensional manager, a big guy who wanted his team to intimidate opponents, in the way his presence seemed to have that effect on people around him.

"But Sam is a very clever guy, one of the first to get into fitness testing and proper diet.

"I wouldn't claim to know him that well, but whenever I was in his company I always felt he was bright as a button."
