Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp insists he had no choice but to work the winter market.
"To be honest I wish we could have had a quiet window," said Redknapp. "Ideally as a manager you wouldn't have to do anything in the window because it means things are going well.
"We had won only three games since the Carling Cup final when I arrived and there had to be a reason for this. The previous manager wasn't a fool because he's now the manager of Real Madrid.
"Something needed doing somewhere and that's why I had to improve the squad. We were lacking certain ingredients and I've done the best I can."
