Tottenham boss Redknapp no fan of winter transfer window

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits he was happy to see the winter market closed last week.

In his match programme notes for the draw with Aston Villa, Redknapp wrote: "Monday saw the closing of the transfer window and although it might be exciting for media and the supporters, from a manager's point of view I don't think we could wait for the end to arrive.

"It is a problem keeping so many international players happy when they are used to playing but then find they are not in the team on a regular basis. That is why we allowed the likes of Robbie Keane, Kyle Naughton, Giovani, Jamie O'Hara and Alan Hutton to go out on loan in order to give them that opportunity to play.

"I am delighted that we were able to bring in Younes Kaboul and Eidur Gudjohnsen during the January window.

"I tried to take Younes to Portsmouth before he came to Tottenham originally but I missed out on him then. I think he has matured and is a better player now. He has everything to be a top player and I believe he could still make the France World Cup squad.

"Eidur can play in several different positions and I can remember when we played against him in the Wembley Cup in pre-season. I thought he was fantastic. He has got a great footballing brain and will be a terrific character to have around the place."
