Tottenham boss Redknapp needs Champions League qualification to buy new striker

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp will be allowed to buy a new striker if they qualify for the Champions League group phase.

The Mail on Sunday says Redknapp will be given £8million to sign a new striker if Spurs qualify for the Champions League group stages this week.

Redknapp has been priced out of the market for his top two targets - Alex Pato of AC Milan and Brazilian centre-forward Luis Fabiano of Sevilla.

But he will be allowed to bring in a top-class forward by chairman Daniel Levy should Spurs overcome a 3-2 deficit in their Champions League play-off against Young Boys on Wednesday night.

Levy wants Redknapp to sell one of his four strikers before signing a new player but the likeliest outcome is for Robbie Keane to move out on loan - as he did in January when he went to Celtic.
