Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp knows the England job can bring "grief" for the man concerned.
Redknapp has not been blindly seduced by the clamour for his succession.
"Everyone who's had the job has been slaughtered at some stage, haven't they?" he told the Mail on Sunday.
"Terry's the only one since Alf who hasn't had any grief. We've seen Ron Greenwood, a great manager of mine at West Ham, and Bobby Robson, a fantastic football man, get terrible stick as England manager."
