Tottenham boss Redknapp hails courage of Cudicini

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has hailed the courage of goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini.

The Italian is set to play his first competitive 90 minutes for Spurs since a horrific motorbike crash.

Cudicini, who broke both wrists and his pelvis last November, starts against Wigan at White Hart Lane today.

He received a hero's welcome when he replaced Heurelho Gomes in the second half of Wednesday's 4-0 Champions League victory over Young Boys.

Redknapp said: "I went to see Carlo in hospital after his crash and he was in a bad way.

"At the time, everybody probably wondered if he would be able to come back after he had been smashed up so badly.

"It's not easy to come back from something so serious, especially for a goalkeeper when you are going to be diving at people's feet and getting kicked.

"But he's a great trainer, a great pro and looks after himself - a typical top Italian footballer.

"It was great to see Carlo come back. His family is steeped in goalkeeping tradition - his father was a great keeper for Milan and Carlo has been there and done it all.

"Nothing fazes him, and when he came on the other night I knew we were in safe hands."
