Tottenham boss Redknapp: Gomes makes me nervy

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp will stick with Heurelho Gomes for the weekend's Carling Cup final against Manchester United.

Gomes was at fault for the opening goal in Tottenham's 2-0 Uefa Cup defeat at Shakhtar Donetsk last Thursday, when he came for a free-kick but failed to get to the ball. The error reinforced concerns about Gomes's vulnerability on crosses and also highlighted why Redknapp has installed Carlo Cudicini as his first-choice keeper. The Italian, who signed from Chelsea last month, will return to the team for tonight's Premier League fixture at Hull City, but he is cup-tied in the Carling Cup.

"The keeper came for the ball [on Shakhtar's first goal] and, if he comes, he has to get it," said Redknapp, who has grown exasperated at his team's shortcomings on set pieces. "Or he stays at home and he probably saves it. If you come, you have to get it, that is the decision. If you come and don't get the ball, it is a problem.

"I am concerned about set pieces but the more you talk about it ... It's the worst it can get, to be honest. It's something we do need to deal with. We are not a big team. If you look against Shakhtar, only [Michael] Dawson is a real header of a ball. [Pascal] Chimbonda can spring, Tom [Huddlestone] is OK. If you have [Jonathan] Woodgate or Ledley [King] in the side, it is different.

"I do get nervy when teams get free-kicks [in the area that Shakhtar did]. You start to think, 'Can we deal with it?' Gomes has done great, though, he's been terrific. He'll play at Wembley."
