Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp was full of praise for Michael Carrick over his performance in Manchester United's FA Cup victory on Saturday.
Redknapp said: "Michael is a terrific craftsman, a top player and a great lad. It's fantastic to see him develop as he has. He's a superb footballer."
Redknapp is proud that four of his West Ham youngsters figured in the Champions League Final last May.
But while Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard and Joe Cole have become part of the England fabric, Carrick is still to make an indelible mark.
"He's different," said Redknapp. "Obviously, it depends how you play. You could see him sitting in central midfield if you played with three. Lamps and Steven Gerrard would give you the energy going forward, he'd be the quarterback if you like."
