Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp hopes to wrap up a deal for Real Madrid defender Gabriel Heinze.

The Daily Star says the former Manchester United star was thrilled to see his former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo agree a move to the Spanish giants.

But the Argentine defender is ready for a new chapter in his career and Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is keen to have the experienced player at White Hart Lane. Heinze is refusing to rule out a move and is hoping to secure his long-term future over the next few weeks.

He said: "I would not mind playing Premier League football again. I am aware that several clubs are interested, but I must speak with Real Madrid first.

"I have no idea of where I am going to end up and I am yet to think about my future."
