Tottenham boss Redknapp can't believe one day to prepare for Man Utd clash

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp will have just ONE DAY to prepare with his full squad for their massive game against Manchester United next weekend.

He said: "I have no idea in my head of what team I will be able to play against United because of these internationals and because many of them won't be back at the club until next Friday. They are returning from all over the world."

Redknapp believes that FIFA must look at a change in the current schedule of matches which mean national sides play on Saturday and then the following Wednesday.

"It must be possible to play on a Wednesday and then the following Saturday," said Redknapp. "That way the clubs will have a full week to work with their players ahead of the next league game instead of just 24 hours. That is crazy ahead of a game like the one against Manchester United.

"I am not the only one affected by this. Many other clubs suffer the same way - including Manchester United. Like us, they have players coming back from all over the world - Europe, Africa and South and Central America. You just don't know how they are going to come back - physically or mentally. If they have an injury, then there is very little time for treatment if they are coming back from another continent.

"I have Wilson Palacios, for instance, coming back from two massive games for Honduras. I have Sebastien Bassong and Benoit Assou-Ekotto with Cameroon.

"And as well as the danger of injury, then there is also the possibility of having so little time to recover mentally of they have had a bad result. At least if they had a full week it would be better. I know what the international managers will say, that they need the full week to get their teams ready. But club managers get their teams right to play on a Saturday and then again for a midweek game so I can't see that as too much of a problem.

"It has to be recognised now that football is a really global game, that players come from all continents. It just cannot be right for club managers to have so little time to get the team ready for a massive league game. I have been left with David Bentley [left] as the only first team squad member able to train. Ledley King is injured and so is Jermaine Jenas.

"Tom Huddlestone has had to have treatment. Luca Modric is injured and would have been with Croatia anyway. Everyone else is away and I won't see them until the day before the game against United - which is one of the great matches of the season at Tottenham. Surely it is now time for a change."
