Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp hailed the performance of William Gallas after victory over Werder Bremen.

Gallas skippered the side five days after leading Tottenham to victory against arch rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

"I thought he was fantastic again," Redknapp said.

"(Bremen winger Marko) Marin had him square around the box in the second half on the break at one point and I thought, 'We're in trouble here', but he shuffled him down the line, held him up and took it off him.

"It was a little bit reminiscent of Bobby (Moore) doing that to Jairzinho in the World Cup.

"He stayed on his feet and didn't go to ground. I made him captain again tonight and he responded to that, I think. He has been fantastic ever since he got here."
