Tottenham boss Redknapp admits Woodgate must prove fitness

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits Jonathan Woodgate must prove he is fit enough to handle a Premiership return.

The centre-half made only three appearances last season due to on-going groin and back complaints and travelled to New York and Sydney earlier this year in a bid to solve the problems.

Woodgate had an operation during his time in Australia and his progress during the next few weeks is likely to determine the level of his involvement in the forthcoming campaign.

Manager Redknapp said: "He will be with the fitness coaches this week and we have to see where he is. He has to be back playing soon. If he is not going to be back soon, he has got problems."
