Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits he gaffed selling Kevin-Prince Boateng to Portsmouth.
Boateng managed just two sub outings for Tottenham last season before being sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund and then sold to Portsmouth for £4million in the summer.
Boss Redknapp said: "When I arrived last year, Boateng was injured and he'd had a few problems.
"I didn't really know much about him but I was listening to what other people were telling me about his character. They weren't painting a very good picture of him.
"I ended up asking myself 'Do I need him around here if it's true?'
"Yet, on the pitch, I thought the kid could really play and I wasn't keen to sell him.
"But we got what the chairman considered a good offer. Maybe the boy needed to move on."
