Tottenham boss Pochettino unsurprised by LaLiga's US decision

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is unsurprised by the LaLiga's decision to play a game overseas.

In a 15-year partnership with multinational sports, media and entertainment group Relevent, La Liga confirmed on Thursday that will take one game per year to the United States as it continues to grow its brand in the region.

And it's been suggested the first game abroad could be staged as soon as this new season. A friendly Clasico clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid was held in Miami last summer.

Speaking about the announcement, Pochettino said: "Look, it was a massive controversy in Spain this week when they played the Spanish Super Cup [Barcelona vs Sevilla] in Morocco. Nobody understood until they explained why.

"It's big business, money that can help the clubs in La Liga. It's not easy to explain. All the salaries in football go up, no? The salaries of the players, managers, coaching staff.

"If the club or Premier League say we need more income so we need to go to play there, then it's difficult for us to give a proper opinion.

"If you say no, the club will say that's fine, but if you want to sign players or give better contracts to your players or yourselves then we will not be able to.

"This decision is more about the business; it's not a football decision. It's about the capacity to earn more income and make more money.

"It's the same in Italy or China. I don't know whether it will happen in the Premier League, but I am sure I will not be involved in any decision."
