Tottenham boss Jol 'didn't want Bent'

Arsenal legend Ian Wright says Tottenham boss Martin Jol never wanted to sign £16.5 million striker Darren Bent.

Wright, in his column for The Sun, wrote: "Word reaches me that not all of Tottenham's summer signings were brought in by Jol.

"In fact, it appears that the arrival of Gareth Bale was the only one he requested and this is extremely worrying.

"The most high-profile signing was the £16.5million they shelled out for Darren Bent and it doesn't seem as though Jol really wanted him, although little wonder when you think they already had three top-class strikers.

"That money could have been used elsewhere to strengthen other areas - like a left-sided midfield player."
