Tottenham are battling to secure Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor to a permanent deal.
The London Evening Standard says Adebayor remains a key man when Spurs are playing well but it may be difficult for the club to retain him for next season. The on-loan Manchester City striker is unwilling to accept a significant cut to his £175,000 weekly wage, which places him well above Tottenham's £70,000-a-week ceiling.
That level is likely to be raised if the club qualify for the Champions League, but Spurs are preparing to lose the Togo star in the summer.
