Tottenham attempted to broker a loan deal for Valencia midfielder Manuel Fernandes yesterday.
Las Provincias says Fernandes was keen on the move as he is not in Valencia coach Una Emery's plans this season.
A loan move was mooted, but nothing could be agreed in time for England's 6pm transfer deadline.
