Tottenham and Arsenal target Yann M'Vila is a step closer to leaving Rennes.

Rennes have swooped for Aston Villa midfielder Jean Makoun as a replacement for M'Vila.

M'Vila is wanted at both Arsenal and Tottenham, with Andre Villas-Boas recently tabling a £12million offer for the France international having had him watched by scouts this month, says the Daily Mail.

Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of the 22-year-old midfielder, but his interest appears to have cooled over the summer.

Rennes are looking for around £17m for M'Vila, who was earmarked to be the fulcrum of France's Euro 2012 side, but injury cast a shadow over his tournament.
