Tottenham agree Defoe fee with Portsmouth

Tottenham have had a £15 million offer for Jermain Defoe accepted by Portsmouth.

The Mirror says Defoe is on the brink of a return to White Hart Lane after Tottenham and Portsmouth agreed a £15million fee for the England striker.

Defoe’s future has been the subject of intense speculation over the last few days - a situation made worse by his non-appearance in Pompey’s FA Cup tie with Bristol City at the weekend. Defoe was said to have flu.

Spurs will hope to rush through the transfer so Defoe can play in their Carling Cup semi-final against Burnley tomorrow.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has long been an admirer of the ‘fox in the box’ frontman.

Having not played any domestic cup matches this season, Defoe will be available for the second leg of the tie against Burnley and the rest of the club’s FA Cup campaign, including the fourth-round tie against Manchester United.
