Tottenham ace Van der Vaart stunned by Premier League ferocity

Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart admits he's been taken aback by the ferocity of the Premier League.

Van der Vaart has 85 caps for his country and has made a good impression since joining Spurs from Real Madrid but he admits he has been surprised by what he has found in the Premier League.

"A player is not as free in England, because of the lack of space," said Van der Vaart, who should feel more at home tonight when Spurs take on Dutch club FC Twente in the Champions League.

"I'm still getting used to the fact that referees do not whistle for certain breaches in England. There is never a moment for rest. Even free-kicks are taken at a furious tempo."
