Tottenham ace Scott Parker is firming as favourite for the long-term England captaincy.
He captained his country for the first time against Holland last Wednesday.
"I see his relationship with the squad around the dinner table. I know how unselfish he is as a player.
"And he's been in good order the last year or so on the pitch. I thought he could grow in the role.
"That was my thinking behind making him captain. It was a case of which one would thrive wearing the armband and inspire one or two around him - and he was a worthy candidate."And England caretaker coach Pearce said: "It was not particularly about having a fresh start but I have been around Scott for a couple of years now.
