Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric admits he feared he would never play again after breaking his leg earlier this season.
Modric fractured his right fibula following an innocuous Lee Bowyer tackle in the 2-1 triumph over Birmingham last August.
Modric spent only three months on the sidelines, but the Croatian confesses the injury left him with some huge mental scars.
He told the News of the World: "I was so upset - I felt like my life had been hit by a train. Everything I had worked for was suddenly in doubt. Not knowing the extent of an injury is like waiting for sentence from a judge in court.
"As I left the pitch all kinds of things were going through my head.
"Will I lose a yard of speed? Will I regain my balance? Will this change my life?"
