Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe admits he reads the Bible most nights and his faith keeps him grounded.
Defoe's preparations for Euro 2012 were interrupted by the passing of his father, while his cousin Hannah was electrocuted later that summer in a pool in St Lucia. His brother Jade died after a street attack in 2009, while a cousin was stabbed to death in 2011.
But such a difficult period of his life has strengthened rather than tested his faith. "I read my Bible most nights and it helps me," Defoe told the Daily Express. "Just having faith keeps me grounded and keeps me positive."
