Tottenham 1-1 Everton: van der Vaart cancels out Baines opener

Tottenham and Everton played out a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Toffees left-back Leighton Baines put his side ahead with a precision free-kick from the edge of the area in the 17th minute which gave Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes absolutely no chance.

In a high-tempo contest, the home side struck back less than two minutes later when a long ball deflected off Peter Crouch at the back post and fell kindly for Rafael van der Vaart who was on hand to ram home from a yard out under no pressure to tie up proceedings.

Neither side could find the winner they were both searching for, forcing them to settle for a point each. The draw allowed Tottenham to momentarily go third as Everton remained 11th.
