Torres full of pride after Liverpool hat-trick

Fernando Torres has spoken of his pride after becoming the first Liverpool player for more than 60 years to score hat-tricks in successive matches at Anfield.

Torres netted all three Liverpool goals in the victory over Middlesbrough on 23rd February and another treble in the 4-0 hammering of West Ham on Wednesday has sealed his place in the club's record books.

Jackie Balmer was the last player to achieve the feat for The Reds in 1946 and Torres is delighted to have matched his accomplishment, although the Spaniard has also paid tribute to the contribution of his team-mates.

"I only learned of the record after the game and it is a big honour for me," Torres told the club's official website.

"The club has a wonderful history so to be a part of that is very special and it is something I am very proud of.

"But it is also a record for everyone at the club because it would be impossible for me to score goals if it was not for my team-mates, the manager, the coaching staff, everyone."
