AC Milan loan signing Fernando Torres missed their 5-4 win over Parma with an ankle injury.
The Chelsea striker was replaced by fellow new signing Giacomo Bonaventura, who struck in the victory.
Milan No2 Mauro Tassotti said: "We had a doubt, as both players were in good shape.
"One is a pure centre-forward and the other more versatile, but our choice was forced upon us by the injury."
