Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack is of the belief that the club's decision to buy Fernando Torres and David Luiz in January proves that they let too many good players go last summer.
The Blues got rid of Ballack at the end of last season along with four other experienced players, namely Joe Cole, Deco, Ricardo Carvalho and Juliano Belletti.
Ballack is aware that the plan was to blood some youngsters but feels that this arrangement did not work the way the reigning champions wanted it do, forcing them into the transfer market in January to spend £75million.
Although Ballack feels that is the case, he can see now that Chelsea are in a much better position with the two inclusions.
"Chelsea changed the squad a little and wanted to trust more a few young players from the academy which is a good way but on the other side you want success," he said.
"They started the season very well, then had a little down period.
"They bought two more big players in January because they could see they need success and they play better now.
"Luiz has been brilliant. His body language and his class helps them a lot.
"Now they are back in good shape. I think the season is not over."
