Toronto FC striker Bright Dike has been dealt a major blow with news filtering through that he has ruptured his Achilles tendon in training.
Reports suggest that the 27-year old Nigerian, who only joined the Reds from Portland Timbers late last season, sustained the serious injury in training on Monday.
Toronto confirmed that Dike had suffered a leg problem but did not elaborate on just how severe the damage was.
"Bright Dike sustained a leg injury Monday morning while practicing with the team in Orlando, Florida," read a TFC statement.
"He will return to Toronto on Tuesday for further evaluation by the team's medical staff."
However, Timbers chairman Merritt Paulson's tweet to Dike indicated that perhaps the World Cup hopeful had severely damaged his Achilles just as he did while with Portland in 2011.
@bbright19 thinking of you, buddy. Just doesn't seem fair. You are as good as there is on rehab though. killed your other achilles rehab
