Toronto plays down transfer talk regarding Tottenham's Defoe, Genoa's Gilardino

Toronto FC have suggested that reports of transfers for Jermain Defoe and Alberto Gilardino are wide of the mark.

English press suggested that Tottenham striker Defoe had agreed a lucrative four-year deal with the Canadian club while media in Italy were of the belief that Genoa forward Gilardino was also set to join.

But MLSsoccer.com contacted Toronto who 'indicated that reports about the players' impending signings were inaccurate.'

Toronto have made no secret of the fact they want to lure a big-name player to BMO Field but at this stage the reports stating that deals have been done are slightly premature.
