Toronto not picking up options on trio

Toronto FC will not exercise options on a trio of players including defender Nick Garcia.

The 31-year old, along with Amadou Sanyang and Fuad Ibrahim, have been released by the club and are unlikely to return in 2011.

TFC general manager Earl Cochrane insisted the decision was necessary, especially for Garcia, who takes up a fair portion of their salary cap.

"This is yet another necessary step as we look toward building our 2011 squad," Cochrane said in a release.

"With Nick we simply couldn't find a way to make him fit within our current budget situation.

"If we lose Nick through this re-entry process, we will miss his leadership and experience."

The MLS has its first Re-Entry Draft on Wednesday which could see Toronto renegotiate the contract with Garcia and potentially re-sign him to a revised deal if no other club comes in for him.
