Toronto FC star De Rosario nominated for charity work
Toronto FC star Dwayne De Rosario has been nominated for the United States-based Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service by an Athlete. De Rosario is being recognised for his work with Nothing But Nets, an initiative to distribute bed nets throughout Africa to limit the spread of malaria carried by mosquitoes.
De Rosario, a married father of three who was acquired in an off-season trade with the Houston Dynamo, has been involved in the program since 2007, raising money by hosting a variety of soccer clinics, demonstrations and fund-raising parties.
"You do these charitable things never really expecting to get recognized and it's nice to know people pay attention to what you do outside of what happens on the field," De Rosario said in a statement.
