Toronto FC set to release Gerba

The relationship between Toronto FC and Cameroon-born forward Ali Gerba is set to end abruptly.

The much-travelled 27-year old Canada international joined the Reds last season but after some poor performances in pre-season, Toronto coach Preki has confirmed that he does not have a future at the BMO Field.

"I've told him that he's not in our plans and hopefully he can make a decision with management, and then we can both move in the right direction," Preki said.

"We evaluated as a staff for five weeks in pre-season and we felt that we need a different type of player here.

"Players who are mobile, people who run around, people who work both sides of the ball, people who are committed to the group. That's what we need."

Gerba confided in Radio-Canada, trying to defend himself by saying that the club were just making up excuses to get rid of him.

"They're saying anything. At the moment, I'm in good shape. That's [just an excuse] they found to explain my dismissal," he said on their website.
