Toronto FC are preparing to offload Darren O'Dea in order to clear space on their salary cap.
TFC head coach Ryan Nelsen has revealed that the Irish defender, who joined from Celtic after a loan with Leeds United in August last year, will soon join a club in Ukraine.
"He's moved on," said Nelsen. "He got a contract from Ukraine and it was one he couldn't turn down. He wanted to go. It was a good opportunity for him.
"It's unfortunate for Darren, it's not his fault that he has the contract he has, but in terms of MLS contracts it was pretty ridiculous to even think of giving it (to him). He's the most expensive player in the whole of the league in terms of the salary cap."
O'Dea posted on Twitter that he was leaving Toronto against his wishes.
For every1 asking I'm discussing terms with another team. Not what I want! Not got a choice! I'll update you when things are clearer! — Darren O'Dea (@odea_darren) July 13, 2013
26-year old O'Dea made 26 MLS appearances for Toronto, scoring one goal.
