Toronto FC determined to keep ex-PSV striker Koevermans

Toronto FC head coach Ryan Nelsen is desperate to keep Danny Koevermans at the club.

The 34-year old striker reportedly told a Dutch newspaper that he wants to return to Holland when his MLS contract expires in December but Nelsen is intent on keeping him at BMO Field as he continues his return from a knee injury.

"We're hoping Danny can be available for this season," Nelsen told the Toronto Sun following Saturday's 2-0 loss to Columbus Crew.

"We've missed Danny. What he says to the press is his business I suppose. I don't subscribe to Dutch newspapers. We're just trying to get him back so he can help Toronto. We need a player of Danny's skill level."

He added: "We haven't had any conversations with Danny about keeping him. We'd love to keep a fit Danny Koevermans because of what he can bring."

Former AZ Alkmaar and PSV Eindhoven forward Koevermans joined Toronto in June 2011 but has made just four appearances during the 2013 season because of injury problems.
