Toronto FC chief Mo Johnston has revealed they're in talks with a mystery South American striker.
Johnston is seeking a strike-partner for Daniele Dichio and told CBC: “I’m very close to signing a South American striker.
‚ÄúThe negotiations are underway, I believe we‚Äôre at a number which is doable ‚Äď and hopefully we can get him on board. After that, a defender - I‚Äôm done and I‚Äôm going home.‚ÄĚ
Johnston has also laughed off the conspiracy theories over the lack of publicity for big signing Dwayne De Rosario.
‚ÄúDwayne will be here on the 2nd [of] February,‚ÄĚ insisted Johnston. ‚ÄúI‚Äôve heard all the nonsense. Dwayne‚Äôs gone overseas. I fought hard for two years to get him here and there‚Äôs no way Dwayne‚Äôs going anywhere ‚Äď we‚Äôre starting to get a team that‚Äôs capable.‚ÄĚ
Why then the silence and lack of media presence following the signing of Canada’s most celebrated player?
‚ÄúWe‚Äôre looking at Dwayne‚Äôs contract,‚ÄĚ Johnston continued. ‚ÄúWe‚Äôre trying to secure him for a longer term ‚Äď I think I‚Äôm getting there. Other than that, Dwayne has a two-year contract. Dwayne is not going anywhere. Dwayne will be in our team come the start of the season.‚ÄĚ
